Health Visitors
You will be assigned a Health Visit when your child is born.
Health Visitors are all trained nurses who have extra training and qualifications in childrens’ health.
They are a fantastic source of information about child development and health, parenting strategies, breastfeeding, nutrition and community support. Health Visitors can also offer help with social, emotional and environmental issues that affect families.
Child Development Clinics
Non-urgent advice: If your child is unwell
Please do not bring unwell children to this clinic.
Once your health visitor has completed your child’s initial development check, you can then arrange the 6 week GP 6 week check.
You will also be offered routine health reviews for your child, with your health visitor, at 6-8 weeks, 8-12 months and 2-2½ years old.
Childhood Immunisations
Immunisations are given by Healthcare Professionals in accordance with the NHS vaccination schedule.
Further information on the schedule and vaccines in general can be found on NHS Inform.
It is very important that all children are immunised against all potentially serious illnesses.
When to immunise
Different vaccines are given at different ages to protect you and your child. Find out when these vaccinations are offered, and when and where they’ll be given:
Hearing tests for children
Routine hearing tests are offered to newborn babies and children to identify any problems early on in their development.
Although serious hearing problems during childhood are rare, early testing ensures that any problems are picked up and managed as early as possible.
